Here I Am

Here I am
playing on this piano
I haven’t forgotten the notes you showed me
or the songs that we played together

How I wish
that you were here
sitting beside me on this withering thing
hands grazing as we play

Running from reality
into our own world
jangling keys from left and right
smiling as we did play.

Here I am
playing on this piano
I can’t seem to control myself
or anything I should say.

I’m still lost
with how things went
you’ve changed, better or worse, since we last met
you’re a stranger in my eyes.

I don’t respond
when you say “hi”
instead I cringe, recoil from the slightest touch
emain forever in the shadows

Here I am
playing on this piano
I wish I could forget the things you taught me
or even better, you.
